Both the Adventure Diver and Advanced Open Water programs are experience centered programs designed
to develop additional dive skills, introduce new dive environments and equipment.

No formal class time is involved with these certifications but there is a manual to read and Knowledge
Reviews to complete similar to the Open Water Diver course.

Adventure Diver consists of three dives of the student's choosing.  This certification can be completed in
one day or spread out over several dive experiences - whichever the student diver chooses.  This
certification can be used towards Advanced Open Water Certification.  See the list below for some possible
dive options.

Advanced Open Water Certification requirements center around five dives conducted over a minimum of
two days.  If Adventure Diver certification was completed prior to beginning the Advanced Open Water
course, only two additional dives are required.  Regardless of how the course begins, two dives are required:
Deep and Underwater Navigation.  The three additional dives can be those completed during the
Adventure Diver certification or are the choice of the student diver without an Adventure Diver certification.
Options include:
  • Altitude (if the dive is conducted at Beaver Lake or other lake at an elevation above 1000 feet),
  • Boat,
  • Drift (if dive is conducted at a site where current is prevalent)
  • Dry Suit (a pool session is required before going to open water for this dive)
